Amsterdam, Paris & the Swiss Alps

Custom-crafted itineraries.
Designed around you, never around a template.
Some journeys return as scenes: a canal at dusk, Paris from above, snow beyond a train window, a melody remembered at exactly the right place. This one follows that familiar cinematic pull through the Netherlands, France and Switzerland, borrowing from films we grew up with. The places are real; the nostalgia arrives on its own.
Across eleven days, Amsterdam begins with canals and the Dutch countryside before Paris turns the frame towards the Seine, the Eiffel Tower and a day of unabashed fantasy. Interlaken brings the first great sweep of the Alps, Lucerne follows through panoramic windows and mountain snow, while Zurich gives the final Swiss chapter an unexpectedly cinematic callback.
The Scenes We Knew by Heart: Amsterdam, Paris & the Swiss Alps is Duniya Safari’s journey through Europe as Indian cinema taught many of us to imagine it, returning to old feelings in entirely new moments.

The experiences that make this journey special
A carefully crafted journey, one unforgettable day at a time.
Arrive in Amsterdam and transfer from Schiphol Airport to your hotel. By evening, step aboard an Amsterdam canal cruise, with narrow houses, bridges and waterside streets slipping past as the light begins to fade. There is something fittingly Queen about beginning here, somewhere new, slightly unfamiliar, and with Europe suddenly happening outside the window.
Later, wander around the Canal Ring or find dinner in Jordaan without asking too much of the first night. A pretty bridge, bicycles disappearing around a corner, a table beside the water, and somewhere between one turn and the next, the holiday has quietly begun.
Leave Amsterdam for Zaanse Schans, Edam, Volendam and Marken, moving through windmills, old streets, harbour fronts and the open Dutch countryside. Each stop changes the view without disturbing the easy pace of the day, from wooden houses beside the water to villages that seem to have settled comfortably into their surroundings.
Wandering through these places, you may stumble upon something unexpectedly quiet yet momentous, much like Harry and Sejal finding what they had been missing somewhere along the way. Back in Amsterdam, the canals feel a little more familiar now, as though two days were enough for the city to leave something behind.
Travel by train from Amsterdam to Paris, trading gabled canal houses for broad boulevards, pale façades and the Seine. Paris enters gradually through balconies, bridges, café terraces and the first glimpse of a familiar landmark appearing at the end of a street.
Spend the later hours around Saint-Germain-des-Prés, the Latin Quarter or simply beside the river. Long before Paris became a recurring backdrop for Hindi cinema, An Evening in Paris had already placed it somewhere between glamour and possibility. Sometimes an evening is all the reference needs.
See Paris's great avenues and landmarks before taking a Seine River cruise through the centre of the capital. Later, rise to the summit of the Eiffel Tower. From above, rooftops, monuments and the river stretch out below. It is the kind of sweeping perspective cinema loves to pan across, letting the city unfold in one grand, unbroken frame.
Return to the streets and keep the evening loose. Walk beside the Seine, cross towards the Latin Quarter or stop somewhere simply because the table looks inviting. Paris has always made a little recklessness look elegant; Befikre merely gave that impulse a more familiar soundtrack.
Spend the day at Disneyland Paris, where castles, parades, rides and familiar characters replace museums and boulevards for a few hours. After the elegance of central Paris, the change is wonderfully unapologetic: brighter, louder, more playful and entirely willing to believe in its own make-believe.
It carries the exuberance of Yeh Dil Deewana, only this time the rush belongs to Paris, not America. Return to the city later with the lights of Disneyland behind you and one final Parisian evening ahead. Tomorrow, the scenery changes completely.
Leave Paris by train and travel into Switzerland, continuing to Interlaken as your Swiss Travel Pass begins. After arrival, explore the town before taking a cruise on Lake Brienz or Lake Thun, with villages along the shore and the Alps rising beyond the water.
By evening, the surroundings feel almost instinctively familiar. Green meadows, blue water, chalet roofs and mountains appearing wherever the eye settles belong to the Switzerland Yash Chopra placed so deeply into Indian cinematic memory. You have seen versions of this landscape before. Being inside it is another matter entirely.
Set out for Jungfraujoch, Top of Europe, with your Swiss Travel Pass forming part of the mountain journey. Railways climb steadily beyond the valley until glaciers, snowfields and high Alpine ridges take over, carrying you into one of the most dramatic landscapes of the Jungfrau region.
Somewhere amid that sweep of snow, the frame becomes familiar. Sridevi’s Chandni made this landscape part of our cinematic memory long before many of us imagined standing here ourselves. Years later, the distance between something once watched on screen and something now lived becomes remarkably small.
Leave Interlaken aboard the Luzern-Interlaken Express, with lakes, villages and mountain slopes passing beyond the windows on the way to Lucerne. After arrival, discover Chapel Bridge, the Lion Monument and take a Lake Lucerne cruise, bringing the day from moving landscapes into one of Switzerland’s most graceful lakeside cities.
For a while, the lamhe seem to still beyond the glass. A lake appears, disappears behind trees, another valley opens, and somewhere along the route the journey begins to feel like a ride down a lane of familiar memories. Lucerne simply continues what the window started.
Travel towards Mount Titlis, using your Swiss Travel Pass for the applicable journey before climbing into the snow above Engelberg. At altitude, the Ice Flyer carries you across the glacier landscape, with white slopes and mountain ridges stretching beyond the chairlift.
No mustard field is required for the DDLJ feeling to arrive. Sometimes snow, a Swiss mountain and the possibility of turning around to find your own Raj or Simran somewhere behind you are quite enough. Back in Lucerne, the lake and old town bring the day gently down from the heights.
Travel to Zurich before continuing to Rhine Falls, where the Rhine gathers force and crashes over a wide rock ledge. Later, visit the Lindt Home of Chocolate, giving the final full day an enjoyable shift from rushing water to something considerably sweeter.
For anyone who remembers Ajnabee, Zurich carries a sharper flash of recognition: that crucial detail in the film, a boarding pass to Zurich, quietly changes what the audience understands. Your own Zurich evening can remain rather less complicated, around the old town, the Limmat or the lake before the final night.
Use your Swiss Travel Pass for the final journey to Zurich Airport. Eleven days have moved through canal reflections, Parisian rooftops, Alpine lakes, train windows, glaciers and snow, places that once belonged to films and imagination before becoming part of your own journey.
The Scenes We Knew by Heart: Amsterdam, Paris & the Swiss Alps ends here with Duniya Safari. Somewhere along the way, the old scenes stopped being only memories borrowed from cinema. New ones took their place beside them, and these are the ones you carry home.

One More Scene Before Paris
If you want a different European mood between Amsterdam and Paris, Brussels makes an easy, rewarding stop. Spend time around the Grand Place, wander through the Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert, stop for Belgian chocolate or a warm waffle, and let the city’s ornate façades and café-lined streets create a short change of scene before France.
Duniya Safari recommends adding 1 night in Brussels after Amsterdam. It fits naturally into the route towards Paris and gives enough time to enjoy the historic centre without turning the journey into another long city stay, making it a gentle interlude between two of the package’s biggest chapters.
