Japan × Korea

Custom-crafted itineraries.
Designed around you, never around a template.
Japan and South Korea often feel familiar before you ever arrive. Manga and manhwa, anime and K-dramas, J-pop and K-pop, sushi and gimbap have carried pieces of both cultures far beyond their borders. Yet the resemblance only lasts until you look closer. The frame may feel familiar, but the humour, rhythm, food, fashion and everyday details begin telling entirely different stories.
Tokyo opens with shrines, sumo, Shibuya, and the unmistakable silhouette of Fuji before Osaka turns the energy toward Dotonbori, Nara, and Uji. Then the script changes. Seoul brings palace gates, hanok streets, Myeongdong and the very different historical weight of the DMZ, while Busan closes the journey by the sea with Gwangalli, Gamcheon and Haedong Yonggungsa looking out over the coast.
Same Frame, Different Script: Japan × Korea is Duniya Safari’s journey through two countries that often seem to rhyme from a distance, then become unmistakably themselves the closer you get.
What's included
A carefully crafted journey, one unforgettable day at a time.
Arrive in Tokyo and transfer from Narita Airport to your hotel in Shinjuku. Railway lines, elevated roads and tightly packed neighbourhoods gather steadily on the way in, until screens and towers begin filling the view around one of the busiest corners of the city.
After checking in, step out towards Shinjuku and Kabukicho. Giant billboards glow above narrow restaurants, arcades sit beneath high-rises, and Godzilla watches over the district from above. It is the Tokyo that films, anime and games made familiar long before the first visit, now moving around you in real time.
Use your Tokyo subway access to move through the capital's very different sides. Start among the temple streets of Asakusa and Sensoji, cross to the wooded grounds of Meiji Shrine, then return to the rush of Shibuya, the Imperial Gardens, and the waterfront around Odaiba.
Later, return to Shinjuku for a live sumo experience and photo opportunity. Ceremony, stance and physical force unfold only a short distance from giant screens and crowded streets outside. Japan's manga panels and ancient ritual occupy the same afternoon with surprising ease.
Leave Tokyo for Mt Fuji, travelling towards Chureito Pagoda and Lake Kawaguchiko. At Chureito, the pagoda rises above the hillside with Fuji beyond, creating a composition so familiar from photographs, animation and Japanese visual culture that seeing it in real life can feel strangely like recognising a scene.
Continue to Lake Kawaguchiko, where the mountain dominates a quieter landscape of open water and changing clouds. Fuji may appear sharply or retreat behind the weather, but the anticipation is part of the day. Away from Tokyo’s screens and crossings, one of Japan’s most reproduced images becomes a real mountain again.
Check out of your Tokyo hotel and take the Shinkansen to Osaka. After checking in, head towards Dotonbori, where giant signs, restaurant façades and reflections along the canal create a cityscape every bit as exuberant as Tokyo, but with a personality that feels immediately more playful.
Walk beneath the Glico sign, follow the riverfront and slip into Hozenji Yokocho when the main strip becomes too loud. This is the evening for takoyaki, okonomiyaki or whatever smells impossible to ignore from the next counter. Osaka turns food, humour and spectacle into part of the street itself.
Take a day trip from Osaka to Nara and Uji. In Nara, deer wander freely through the park towards Todaiji Temple, where the immense wooden hall and Great Buddha bring a very different scale to the morning.
Continue to Uji, with time around Uji Park and Byodoin Temple beside the river. Uji’s long association with Japanese tea makes a cup of matcha a natural addition if time allows. Temple roofs, river paths and tea houses replace Osaka’s bright signs for the day, before you return to the city in the evening.
Check out of your Osaka hotel and transfer to Kansai Airport for your flight to Seoul. On arrival at Gimpo, continue to your hotel and step into a city that can feel oddly familiar at first: fast trains, late-running streets, glowing storefronts and crowds moving beneath a completely different alphabet.
Spend the evening around Myeongdong, Cheonggyecheon Stream and Insadong. K-pop slips from shop speakers, beauty stores line the streets and food counters offer everything from gimbap to hot street snacks. Then Insadong changes the mood again with traditional shops, tea houses and narrower lanes. The setting may echo Japan at moments; the details quickly belong to Korea alone.
Begin at Gyeongbokgung Palace, where broad courtyards, tiled roofs and monumental gates bring Seoul’s royal history into the centre of the modern capital. Continue to Namsangol Hanok Village, where traditional Korean houses offer a more intimate view of an older way of living.
Later, rise to N Seoul Tower and look across the city from above. Mountains frame a dense sweep of neighbourhoods and towers, the kind of skyline that has become instantly recognisable through Korean dramas. Palace roofs, hanok courtyards and contemporary Seoul remain visible within a single day..
Leave Seoul for the DMZ, where the journey's tone changes. Beyond K-pop, K-dramas and the polished image of contemporary South Korea lies a division that continues to shape the Korean peninsula, visible here as geography, memory and a real border.
The excursion also takes you towards the Red Suspension Bridge, bringing mountain scenery into a day otherwise shaped by modern history. It is a quieter, more serious chapter of Korea, far removed from the version most often seen on screens, and essential to understanding the country beyond its global pop culture.
Check out of your Seoul hotel and board the KTX for Busan. The film reference is impossible to resist, although this journey is considerably calmer, carrying you south at high speed before Korea’s second city opens towards the coast.
After checking in, head to Gwangalli Beach and its waterfront promenade. Gwangan Bridge stretches across the bay, cafés and restaurants face the water, and the entire shoreline begins to glow as evening falls. Busan’s first impression comes with sea air, bridge lights and the city spread along the coast.
Begin at Gamcheon Culture Village, where brightly painted houses climb the hillside in layers of colour, stairways and narrow lanes. From certain viewpoints, the rooftops seem almost stacked like panels across the slope, giving the neighbourhood the exaggerated depth of a webtoon illustration.
Continue through Busan to Taejongdae, Haedong Yonggungsa Temple and the Songdo Skywalk. Cliffs, open sea, and temple roofs beside the water replace the morning's dense hillside streets, ending the journey through Korea with the coast always somewhere in view.
Check out of your Busan hotel and transfer to Gimhae International Airport for your onward flight. Fuji beneath an open sky, sumo under Shinjuku screens, takoyaki beside Dotonbori, palace roofs in Seoul and bridge lights across Busan now sit within the same journey, close enough to echo one another, never close enough to blur.
Same Frame, Different Script: Japan × Korea ends here with Duniya Safari. Manga became manhwa, J-pop gave way to K-pop, and the familiar kept changing the closer you looked. Two countries that can seem to rhyme from a distance leave behind very different stories. The frame was familiar. The script never was.
